Ascending Le Saleve

After sleeping in and enjoying a leisurely morning, I decided to hike up Le Saleve on Saturday afternoon. Also known as "Geneva's Mountain," this steep 1200m ridge south of Old Town is famous for providing hikers with a breathtaking view of the city, lake, and countryside. Though I'd gone for a 6 mile sunset run after work a few days earlier, my weekday lifestyle has primarily been sedentary, and so I was eager to get out for some more prolonged exercise this weekend. Since pictures are worth a thousands words, I'll let my Canon tell the story of the day's hike:

View of Le Saleve from the base. Houses sit near the summit.

One of 5,274 dead-end trails we encountered on our hike.
The Swiss like to keep you on your toes, apparently...

Flip a coin: The trail featured several forks with no markers.

Flowers lined the trail, along with wild strawberries.

View of Geneva from the summit of Le Saleve.

Overlooking the countryside with the Jet d'Eau in the distance.

Myself paragliding back down to the bottom!

Just kidding. We took the cable car down.

Retracing our steps from above as we descended the mountain.
